Engagement

Looking after your interests

You may have come across the term 'engagement' in connection with sustainable and responsible investment. This is a process that allows us as fund managers to meet the companies we invest in, to review corporate progress and prospects. We view it as a vital part of our investment strategy, giving us a constructive opportunity to ask questions and challenge firms on the issues that could influence your investments.

Investing in relationships

Our philosophy of systematic engagement provides us with insights that feed through into our investment process, to the ultimate benefit of our clients.

Our ongoing relationships with company management underpin the robustness of our investment process. Our style of active engagement is designed to avoid, as much as possible, surprises that have the potential to change the fundamental standing, strategy or dynamics of the companies in which we invest.

Alongside our programme of regular company meetings, we’re also involved in a range of projects that contribute to the development of best practice standards of corporate responsibility. For example, we represent investors on the Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and we have participated in working groups of the Global Reporting Initiative. All of these activities allow us to exert a positive influence on companies’ policy direction.

We often engage with regulators and politicians on key policy issues, and you’ll find some examples of these activities within the documents section of the site.
